De Ontmoeting

Being attentive, offering security and hospitality are the pillars of Moroccan-Dutch family life. In public opinion, however, these values remain underexposed. All too often, the Moroccan community is seen as closed and identified with social problems. This strongly contrasts with the generosity and warmth that I encountered when I was welcomed by my former Moroccan family in-law. Can these family values, that focus on sharing and warmth – serve as an antidote to the Dutch emphasis on individualism?
