HEAR US NOW
I was brought up in a world where women are silenced. We were taught to be quiet, to shrink ourselves, make ourselves smaller. The violence of the system we live in has overpowered us and we let it happen — until we didn’t.
We are here, standing tall on the shoulders of our ancestor angels. They have whispered in our ears take up the space that is rightfully yours. The whispers became louder, inspiring our voices to grow stronger. Continuing this beautiful train reaction; giving courage to others to speak up.
The strength of a woman is limitless. Our vulnerability is our power, our rage is our source and our words turn into healing, solidarities and communities.
We are a chorus of voices that will not be silenced.

LA Vida

LA Vida - DAD

LA Vida

LA Vida

I was born and raised in Amsterdam by my Dutch mom and my Mexican-American dad. I have two passports and my family and friends are divided between my hometown and Los Angeles.
When I am in The Netherlands I feel something inside me which I am not able to place, simply because I cannot relate this to anything or anyone around me.
By leaving my mom’s world, and stepping into my dad’s, I questioned my own identity. This became the starting point of a photographic series that explored the duality within myself.
How does the soft approach of my mom and the toughness my dad grew up in, shape the soft and strong part inside me? And what do I take back with me from LA?
